Yes errrrr no errrrr yes

Hi beautiful grandchildren.

That last post about the tree through the roof included a note that no one told us what to do to get the repair check turned into something usable. Our agent told us nothing, the claim reducer told us nothing, and the contractor told us nothing.

So, we tried to deposit the check - and could not because it needed to be signed by the mortgage company.

Judith contacted the mortgage company and the voice at the other end said to go to such-and-such website and print a certain form, sign the check, fill out the form, and send the two in to the mortgage and they would disperse the funds. The website did not exist.

Judith contacted the mortgage company and the voice at the other end said that we had been given bad information (my conspiracy-oriented brain immediately saw a crime in the making) and that s/he would send out forms which we should fill out and return with the un-endorsed check and the forms and the check would be endorsed and sent back to us to disperse.

The forms came and were for an incident involving less that $10,000 in repairs. Judith contacted the mortgage company and the voice at the other end "Oh, sorry. We will send those forms." We have endorsed the check and sent it and the forms back and the mortgage company will disperse the fund. Progress.

We do have tarps nailed to the ceiling to keep the heat in and to the outside to keep the rain out. Both work pretty well. We get a few tablespoons of water on an average day and a quart or so on a windy/rainy day.

No progress on the repair, however. We were near the top of the list when the second big storm hit. It damaged far more houses than the first and, since we can live in ours, all the people whose houses were cut in half have been placed above us in the list. Add to that the fact that the engineer who was to measure our trusses was, himself, without electricity for ten days. Everyone is working overtime to get caught up so it would be hard to justify complaining.

Love, G'pa Bob

Much sympathy on people who are getting paid to help you.. not helping you. D and I can relate what with State Farm and all. From day one, it was half answers and delays and only sharing minimum info necessary to get us off the phone. I hope you have some good progress, though. I know you've been pushed down the list, but maybe with so Many people needing repairs, etc. there will be less wiggle room for insurance/repair companies to cheat? More pressure to be upfront since a class action lawsuit could be around the corner? I dunno.. I guess it didn't stop things with Katrina, but.. maybe someone's paying attention.

I know that you have been through much worse. At least my company is not trying to cheat me.
