This week - random

Hi beautiful grandchildren and friends,

This was a wild week. It ended with a good movie - "Stranger that Fiction". We left jointly amazed at what we had just witnessed. Definatley an artsy movie, probably A- overall but a very unique theme and quite (not perfectly) clean. Judith said that Kate would think of "Castaway".

The claims reducer left with the comment that he would have to have engineers involved because the damage to the house was so extensive and was beyond his ability to quantify. The engineer reported a minimum of $20,000 for repairs. I think the whole roof will be replaced. This will happen over a period of three months and we will need to be out for up to three weeks. Someone said that it takes six weeks to get the trusses after they are ordered. We have asked them to be the contractor so things will get started in ernest on Monday - I wrote out the $500 deductable check.

We will make Thanksgiving bigger than normal this year because Christmas may be tiny comparatively. I am sure glad that this was not a family-gathering year!!

I was disappointed that the clean-up company did not remove the little branches - they just took the wood. If they used up all the money for clean-up then I will complain because there is still lots of clean-up left to do. $500 was allocated (getting the tree off the house is completely covered). All will be covered after our $500 decductable.

The most difficult part in the immediate future will be deciding what to store while there is no roof, while the sheetrock is being replaced and while the painting is being done (and any remodeling we want - painting, deck extension). Judith suggested putting the TV on the hearth and moving out the "elephant" (the entertainment center). We are making a list of things to definately be moved out. While we do not want to be tripping over the stuff taken from the bedroom into the front room for the next three months, we also want to have things available that will be useful while we are in the house. It will be a balancing act. I think we have some time to decide.

Lots to do today so good by for now.
Love,
G'pa Bob
